WHAT DOES MERR DO?

MERR is on call 24/7 to provide rescue and care for marine mammals and sea turtles that might be ill, injured, entangled or otherwise in need. In addition, we conduct research on those animals that have died so that we can glean information on the animal, the cause of death, more about the species, and ocean health. We contribute this information to Federal, state and local entities, as well as researchers and others in the marine conservation field. MERR conducts education and outreach programs throughout the state on the topic of marine mammal and sea turtle ecology and conservation. We believe that education is the most important key to conservation.

MERR'S ANNUAL WHALE OF A YARD SALE 5/18/24

Join us at the MERR facility on Saturday, May 18, starting at 8 a.m. for our annual yard sale fundraiser, featuring items for the home and garden. All funds raised during the event will go to the year-round efforts of the non-profit organization, which serves as the first response to all marine mammals and sea turtles stranding in Delaware, including food and care, veterinary bills, transportation, and supplies.

MERR also hosts a number of outreach endeavors in which representatives travel to area schools to inform students about the neighboring marine mammals.

The yard sale is one of the major fundraisers for the organization, and will also feature a bake sale and refreshments throughout the day. The yard sale at the MERR facility, located at 801 Pilottown Road, next to the Coast Guard Station, will take place rain or shine.
